Join Girl Scouts of Hawaii and Pacific Aviation Museum morning of fun and exploration. Last year, STEM Fest had 391 Girl Scouts and 131 STEM professionals in attendance. The goal this year is to host 400+ girl scouts from Kindergarten to 12th grade. Without the help of volunteers like yourself, this will not be possible. You can inspire the next generation of Female STEM professionals!
We will present a 20 minute hands-on STEM activity in 6 rotations to small groups of 5-6 girls. Supplies and directions will be provided. Volunteers will start at 8 am.

Call for Proposals for Funding of Projects/Activities by HWEA for FY 2019

Do you have an idea for a community project or program but are not sure how to fund it? HWEA is looking for bold, innovative ideas for new project and activities for FY 2019. HWEA will provide funding up to a total of $60,000 to support projects or activities consistent with its mission/goals that would benefit the association and/or its members. There are few limits on possible winning ideas. Multi-year proposals will also be considered.

The deadline for the proposal submission is 4:30 pm on Thursday, November 15, 2018.

All projects receiving funding will be required to participate as poster presenters in the HWEA/AWWA Pacific Water Conference at the Hawaii Convention Center on February 20-21, 2019. This will be a project description – the project(s) are not expected to be completed for this poster.

December 1, 2018: Awards announced
February 20-21, 2019: Poster presentation at Pacific Water Conference

Update 2018 Water Reuse Conference: Ho`okahi Wa`i – One Water

The Water Reuse Committee is preparing for the 12th Biennial Hawaii Water Reuse Conference to be held on the island of Maui at Café O Lei at the Dunes at Maui Lani on November 29 & 30, 2018. The Committee has secured a special rate at the Courtyard by Marriott Maui Kahului Airport hotel. Please consider utilizing this facility for your overnight stay. The Reuse Committee, a joint effort between HWEA and AWWA Hawaii Section, is putting together a slate of excellent speakers for a full day of presentations on Thursday November 29 and a half day on Friday November 30. Bento box lunches will be provided on Friday to kick off your choice of two afternoon events: a system tour of Maui’s reclaimed water system or golf at a nearby R1 golf course at group rates.

Speaker: Richard DeGarmo, Hawaii Gas, Director of Renewable Energy & Capital Projects

Topic: Honouliuli WWTP Biogas Upgrading Facility. Hawaii Gas has constructed and is now operating a new high-tech biogas cleaning/purification facility at the Honouliuli WWTP. The facility produces pipeline quality biomethane from the raw biogas and injects it directly into the Hawaii Gas’ supply line that extends to Hawaii Kai. Hawaii Gas provided the capital and is responsible for operations of the facility, with no cost to the City. The project can generate approximately up to $130,000 per month for the city. This presentation will present the new biogas-cleaning technology and project economics.
