Who we are, what we do
HWEA is a member association of the Water Environment Federation (WEF), which is headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia. WEF is an international not-for-profit educational and technical organization of more than 40,000 water quality experts. WEF’s mission is to preserve and enhance the global water environment.
The 400 members of HWEA include environmental and sanitary engineers, planners, wastewater treatment plant and collection system operators, chemists, microbiologists, ecologists, regulators, public health officials, scientists, researchers, educators, and concerned citizens.

President's Message
HWEA Positioned For Success
Aloha HWEA members! My name is Jessica Agsalda and I am honored to serve as HWEA President for the 2025-2026 term. As our Past-President, Brandon Uejo, and our Executive Director, Aiko Fajardo, have graciously brought me up to speed on all things HWEA, I am feeling hopeful and excited at all goals we will be working towards completing together.
This year, the Board will concentrate on revising HWEA’s three-year Strategic Plan. This process has prompted me to reflect on our organization’s core values and the services we provide our membership. I have also been reflecting on my own volunteer experience with HWEA which first began in 2013, when I became involved with the Young Professionals (YP) Committee.
